![]() In Ayurveda, the morning routine is pretty important. The way you start your day sets the tone for the rest of the day. Waking up each morning and caring for yourself first thing will leave a lasting impression for the entire day. We won't get into all of the aspects of a morning routine here. Instead, I want to address the best way to avoid a dentist drill by simply following a few easy steps suggested through Ayurveda. The following three tips should be done directly after getting out of bed second only to the urge to use the toilet. Scrape Your Tongue: When you sleep at night your body is busy getting rid of the toxins that you have accumulated through the day. Even if you live in a pristine environment there are many things accumulated that need to be discarded. The body will push many of these toxins out through your feces. But the body isn't discriminatory, it will use the sweat of your body as well as your mouth. If you have never looked at your tongue first thing in the morning it is worth investigating. There is typically a thick coating covering the tongue. Depending on the color, the amount, and the location tell us a lot about how the body is functioning. Regardless of what is on it, that coating is full of toxins your body doesn't need. By scraping it off with a "tongue scraper" you will prevent those toxins from reentering your digestive tract. One note on this, be gentle with your tongue. You will most likely not be able to get all of the buildups off of your tongue so don't try to keep scraping until your touch is pink all over. Instead, notice what comes off on the scraper. When you are no longer pulling thick mucus off then that is good for the day. This will help to protect the delicate taste buds on your tongue. Oil pull: Another tip for great hygiene in your mouth is to spend some time swishing oil in your mouth after scraping your tongue and brushing your teeth. This process has a two-fold benefit. 1. It coats your entire mouth, including the spaces between your teeth with protective oil. 2. It also helps to draw further toxins into the oil that you can then spit out so it is not reabsorbed in your body. There has been a study done that using sesame oil (which is full of antibacterial/microbial properties) prevented the build-up of place on the teeth and minimized the number of germs in your mouth throughout the entire day. This is a very easy way to remove toxins and protect your teeth from them all day long! Natural Ingredients: Having been someone who struggled with swollen tender gums for many years, I was amazed at how a switch in toothpaste brought an abrupt stop to the issue. The first brand that made a huge impact is "Thieves" which has many herbs that help to combat destructive germs that live in our mouths. This can be fairly expensive to use but it is worth it to watch how quickly bleeding gums and pacified when getting the right product. Another very good product is Auromere toothpaste. There are a few varieties of flavors and it is fairly inexpensive which makes this more appealing than Thieves to me. I also noticed that their mixture of natural ingredients had the same healing effect on my mouth. In our current day in time, we have this tendency to think that processed or man-made items are more potent. This is not always the case. If you struggle with receding or bleeding gums I encourage you to try a natural toothpaste as mentioned above and notice how quickly the relief comes to your mouth. Not only will you feel better in so many ways, but you will also begin getting raving reviews from your dentist as the health of your mouth improves!

AuthorThe purpose of this blog is to allow Sivani to express thoughts on Ayurveda, yoga & meditation that are not typically found when googling the topics. Sivani's deepest desire is to encourage autonomous living in all people. There are no infallible persons to whom one can turn for perfect guidance to ensure success. When it comes all the way down to it, we are each responsible for our choices regardless if others have led, will lead, or actively attempt to lead us in any direction either for our good or our destruction. Even the best-intentioned individuals make grievous mistakes. Yet, within each individual is an Infallible Source that governs all of existence. Through exploration and discovery, individuals can connect to and build a strong relationship with this Source and thus make their own choices based on their moral objectivity. Does this approach come at an expense? Potentially. But blindly following others has proven to be just as dangerous. Stimulating others to approach any and all exploration to deepen their first-hand relationship with the Inner Intelligence active within the confines of their nervous systems is Sivani's life's mission. The more this is done, the more the Inner Intelligence permeates and pervades all of creation and will be unmistakable. Archives
